I love Walmart.  It’s the great American success story.  They cater to people like me, who shop for bargains.  If you want to see America in all its wide variety of people…there is no better place.

It’s emblematic of heartland.

And it’s a place that people like Elizabeth Warren, Joe Biden, and others on the left likely never go.  Disgraced FBI agent Peter Strozk texted to his mistress, “Just went to a Southern Virginia Walmart.  I could SMELL the Trump support.”

Note the word “smell” was in all capital letters, to indicate just how bad our stench is. This is the attitude of many on the left towards this great American retail institution and its customer.  And yet, sadly, Walmart has now caved to the radical left who despises them. Hank Berrien at The Daily Wirehas the story:

On Tuesday, Walmart announced that after its current inventory is depleted, it will cave to the demands of far-left activists and stop selling handgun ammunition and ammunition commonly used in other popular semi-automatic firearms. Walmart also stated it was requesting that customers eschew carrying guns openly in their roughly 4,700 stores as well as its Sam’s Club stores in states that permit open carry…

Walmart CEO Doug McMillon explained his decision in a memo:

McMillon noted that Walmart had already ceased selling AR-15s, raised the age limit to purchase a firearm or ammunition to 21, required a “green light” on a background check for purchase instead of the absence of a “red light,” which is required by federal law, among other steps. Then he wrote, “Today, we’re sharing the decisions we’ve made that go further: After selling through our current inventory commitments, we will discontinue sales of short-barrel rifle ammunition such as the .223 caliber and 5.56 caliber that, while commonly used in some hunting rifles, can also be used in large capacity clips on military-style weapons; We will sell through and discontinue handgun ammunition; and We will discontinue handgun sales in Alaska, marking our complete exit from handguns.”

McMillion acknowledged that the stores would still offer long barrel deer rifles and shotguns, and cited incidents where individuals have entered Walmart stores “attempting to make a statement and test our response” before continuing, “… we are respectfully requesting that customers no longer openly carry firearms into our stores or Sam’s Clubs in states where ‘open carry’ is permitted – unless they are authorized law enforcement officers.”

Sadly — like Dick’s Sporting Goods before them — now I’ve been turned away from Walmart.  If you’re going to cater to the radical left, I’m just not interested in doing business with you.

Now I’m not suggesting a boycott. I don’t boycott.  But I do try to do business with businesses that stay out of the overt business of politics and I agree with the NRA’s statement on the company’s kowtowing to the far left.

“It is shameful to see @Walmart succumb to the pressure of the anti-gun elites,” they tweeted. “Lines at Walmart will soon be replaced by lines at other retailers who are more supportive of America’s fundamental freedoms.”

Exactly.

Regrettably, the Babylon Bee, a satirical publication, had the best response.  In an article titled, “Walmart Discontinues Auto Part Sales To Prevent Car Accidents,” they lampoon the logic of this decision.

In a bold move intended to curb the thousands of deaths from vehicles each and every day, Walmart has decided to stop selling auto parts, sources confirmed Tuesday.

“We can no longer be complicit in an industry that kills over 3,000 people a day,” said a spokesperson for Walmart. “Every time we sell a muffler, steering wheel cover, or flame decal, we are potentially causing the death of a person, and we cannot support that any longer.”

“It’s clear that bad drivers and poor road conditions don’t cause vehicular deaths—cars do.”

It would be funny if the stakes weren’t so high.
