Recently, President Donald Trump made an announcement that shocked the world: the United States will now recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.  This was actually a dramatic fulfillment of his campaign promise to “drain the swamp.” For nearly seventy years, American politicians of both political stripes have not taken a stand, saying that this should be determined through peace negotiations. Though many politicians have said our foreign policy should properly reflect Jerusalem as the capital city, the incredible sensitivity about this piece of real estate has suffocated any attempts to do so.

His courage to finally fulfill this long-promised notion is probably why Israel’s transportation minister is planning on naming a future train station after Trump.  (Jerusalem has a soon-to-open high speed rail line to the Western Wall.) The Daily Mail has the details:

‘The Western Wall is the holiest place for the Jewish people, and I decided to name the train station that leads to it after president Trump – following his historic and brave decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel,’ Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz told the Jerusalem Post.

The national daily newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth was first to report Tuesday that Katz had approved final construction plans for the train, which will include excavating a 2-mile tunnel from the Umma (nation) station at the entrance to the city to the Cardo in the Jewish Quarter.

Transportation Ministry spokesman said the project will cost more than $700 million and would take 4 years to accomplish.  I’m so glad that our government is finally speaking the truth. The Israeli ministries, Prime Minister, and Supreme Court are all already located in Jerusalem. Americans are glad that the President of the United States is stepping out of the swamp to make it official. This is a bold, brave, conservative move Presidents have been promising for a long time.

Trump deserves this honor.
