Hoods

Okay… I’m disgusted.  Art professor Billie Grace Lynn created a “piece of art” called “American Mask,” a work that depicts the “bigotry and racism are hiding behind our flag.”  Fox News has more of the details:

The flags shaped like KKK hoods had the eyes burnt out with nothing but darkness behind them and sat on poles with bases shaped like Nazi swastikas. The artwork is part of the University of Miami’s annual faculty art show, gallery director Milly Cardoso told the Miami New Times.

It’s upset many people, including a black man who works in the building:

“This is disgusting. This is disrespectful,” Patrick Young, a black employee who works in the same building as the UM art gallery, told WSVN. “I can’t see it being a positive message any way you put it.”

The artwork, which will be on display until Nov. 12, has angered many who say it defaces the American flag and is outright offensive.

“What can this actually help?” Young said. “Burning an American flag? I have no idea what this symbolizes, what this helps out. Who does this reach?”

Exactly.  I’m not sure what she’s trying to achieve, but I doubt she’s going it pull off anything other than upsetting many people… Especially black students who might not to see KKK hoods during their daily college life.

Watch a video on the hoods:

Imagine for one second what would happen if somebody made Klan hoods out of a rainbow flag?  To be clear, I’m not saying they should… I’m just saying the left would threaten violence to shut down the display.

As offensive as I find this art professor’s “art,” I still support her right to do it… the left would undoubtedly threaten violence if this went the other way.

But I have freedom of speech too. And this is absolutely disgusting.
