But this is today’s college campuses. What we’ve just seen at the University of California at Berkeley is the pinnacle of a rising tide that started long ago but has swelled feverishly over the past year. Conservative provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos was to give a speech on campus but had to be escorted away because violence erupted and it left UC Berkeley in shambles. The campus that started the Free Speech Movement in 1964 has become very anti-First Amendment in 2017, as Stephen Miller contrasted so perfectly in this tweet: Berkeley 1964 v Berkeley 2017. pic.twitter.com/2Qz6j9nxz1 — Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) February 2, 2017 Thousands of anarchists swarmed the campus, threw smoke bombs, started fires, and destroyed property because they don’t like opposing viewpoints. Some were outsiders, but many were believed to be students and possibly even faculty. Ben Shapiro, who was recently threatened with arrest before a campus speech, explains how this was cultivated: Because the academic left has built up a pseudointellectual bulwark around such fascism. They’ve told students that they deserve “safe spaces” – areas in which their ideas are not challenged in any way. They’ve forwarded the culture of “microaggressions,” which urges students to see any speech they find offensive as a form of “aggression” to be countered by other aggression. The great economist Walter E. Williams contrasts this “lower standard” of liberal behavior with that of the Tea Party protests which were often vilified by the Left and the mainstream media: One of the nastiest more recent liberal events was the Occupy movement around the nation. During Occupy protests, there were rapes, assaults, robberies, and holdups. These people publicly defecated and urinated on police cars. The mess they left after their demonstrations can be described as no more than a pigsty. Does anybody recall any Democratic official, from the president on down, admonishing them to behave? Contrast their behavior with that of tea party protesters. Tea partyers didn’t set fires, stone police, or engage in the other kinds of despicable behavior the liberal Democrats did. On top of that, they left the areas where they protested clean. President Trump has responded appropriately and questions whether UC Berkeley should receive any further federal funds if they continue to support these anti-free speech actions: If U.C. Berkeley does not allow free speech and practices violence on innocent people with a different point of view – NO FEDERAL FUNDS? — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 2, 2017 This Rise of New Fascism is part of the reason Trump was elected and if they continue down this road, and all signs point to that they will, they can expect one outcome: another four years of Trump. The American Right has had it, and we say, “No more liberal lunacy.” However, “more Trump” is not the answer, “less government” is. “We should make every effort to sell them on the moral superiority of personal liberty and its main ingredient—limited government,” argues Williams and I agree. But unfortunately, the depravity of the Left, evidenced below, will have to be dealt with one way or the other first: Sicking to see them go after a guy when he was already unconscious.
