Insanity. That’s the word that keeps coming to mind when I think about the Biden administration. The way we pulled out of Afghanistan was insane. The way the president is handling COVID-19 is insane. The way he’s strong-arming state governors is insane, and the way he’s handled the border crisis in insane. Nothing about this administration makes sense, and if our recent polling is any indication, the American people are starting to catch on. Nothing epitomizes this administration’s insanity better than Rachel Levine, Biden’s much ballyhooed Assistant Secretary for Health for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). As far as I can tell, Levine’s only real qualification for the position is his profound belief that he is a woman. He believes this so strongly that he dresses in women’s clothes, speaks in a high voice, and has undergone genital mutilation and hormone treatment. His firm belief in the unscientific reality of his non-physical spirit gender has also led him to leave his wife and two children. It’s totally unclear why we should believe that his feelings justify his actions and behaviors. None of his science-believing fellow Democrats have offered any evidence that his inner life should be trusted any more than the inner life of any other insane person. They want parents and teachers to believe that children who can’t drive, vote, or engage in sexual activity with an adult have the ability to determine their own spirit gender. Levine and his ilk believe this so strongly that they encourage children to mutilate their genitals without their parent’s consent. They believe that troubled and mentally ill children should dress in women’s clothes and take permanently damaging hormone treatment. They believe that local school districts should fall in line, and they’re willing to use the awesome power of the federal government to make that happen. In a “Back to School” video released by the Department of Education and the Department of Justice, senior officials reminded children that if their school does not take steps to accommodate their feelings about their gender, the Biden administration is more than happy to step in. SEE ALSO: 3 Ways Joe Biden Can Impose a Nationwide Mask Mandate Kristen Clarke, the DOJ’s assistant attorney general for civil rights, told transgender students that the federal government will fight for them against “discrimination.” “In some places, people in positions of authority are putting up obstacles that would keep you from playing on the sports field, accessing the bathroom and receiving the supportive and life-saving care you may need. We’re here to say that’s wrong and it’s against the law,” she said. Suzanne Goldberg, acting assistant secretary for civil rights in the Department of Education, said that her department “and the entire federal government stand behind you.” “The Department of Justice is here, along with the Department of Education, to investigate complaints about discrimination or harassment based on sexual orientation or gender identity. We want you to know that we are looking out for you, and we’re here to protect your civil rights,” she said. In other words, schools that refuse to go along with the Biden administration’s transgender ideology can expect to fight waves of expensive lawsuits in court. Most schools, as we saw during the Obama administration, would rather acquiesce to this blatant federal overreach than risk bankrupting their districts. The Biden administration is linking their insane transgender ideology to their insane government overreach. I hope that states and parents fight this sickness tooth and nail. Some will succumb, but I believe there are enough sane Americans left to protect our children and grandchildren from the mental illness that has infected the federal government.
