UDenver’s Stupid ‘We’re a Culture, Not a Costume’ Campaign

Remember when Halloween was picking up whatever materials you could find around the house, sticking them on with duct tape, pretending to be a monster, a hobo, or a witch and ending the day with a candy-induced coma?

No more.

Now, like everything else in this country, it is so politicized, it’s not even fun anymore.

Take the University of Denver (UD), for example, though it’s hardly the only college that has gone off the Halloween rails.  They launched a “We’re a Culture, Not a Costume” campaign, to decrease cultural appropriation in Halloween costumes.

Campus Reform has the details:

The UD Housing and Residential Education (HRE) department is promoting the campaign, which aims to address “the problematic practice of cultural appropriation surrounding Halloween costumes, practices, and celebrations.”

“Because HRE is committed to pursuing inclusive excellence and social justice through programming and dialogue, our department created the ‘We’re a Culture Not a Costume’ campaign in an effort to raise awareness about cultural appropriation during the Halloween season,” the website reads. “We know cultural appropriation occurs throughout the year and is embedded within our society; but by raising awareness now, it is our hope the community can use the tools and dialogue provided to better create a respectful and inclusive campus for all.”

Got that students?
If you want to be Moana for Halloween and aren’t Polynesian, you better skip that Disney princess.
And don’t forget your bureaucratic overlords also don’t want you to appropriate Native American culture lest you offend 1/1024th of Elizabeth Warren.
I don’t know about you, but I think college administrators have a lot more to worry about than students’ costumes.
However, the fact that they won’t let this go (and parents continue to send their kids to these colleges of liberal indoctrination) is truly — and actually — scary.
