The Ohio Republican Party sank to a new political low when they decide to attack a Democratic veteran’s mental health using a mailer that mocked his trauma. Well, @ohiogop has finally hit rock bottom. Attacking my mental health is the lowest form of politics. Fortunately, people aren’t buying your nonsense. People here are furious at your unethical and immoral attack. I imagine you’re going this low because you can’t win. pic.twitter.com/NHCo3i2FAU — Joe Helle (@JoeHelle) October 10, 2018 Invoking the Incredible Hulk to make fun of a man who volunteered to serve his nation is really classy guys. That doesn’t sound very pro-military, does it? Thankfully, the actual GOP candidate thought this was low, too, and was willing to speak out against it. Via RawStory: U.S. congressional candidate Joe Helle (D), in a joint statement with Republican incumbent Steve Arndt, condemned the Ohio GOP’s negative attack ad. Helle is a veteran who suffers PTSD resulting from his service in Afghanistan. He has openly said that his mental health problem have led to anger issues in the past. The GOP-sponsored ad highlights the Democratic candidates mental health issues and claims, “You wouldn’t like Joe Helle when he’s angry.” Helle asked the Republican candidate Steve Arndt to condemn the ad, and that’s exactly what he did. They even appeared together in a video to constituents saying this was beyond the scope of the way politics should be. Watch the video of the two candidates together below. This is the way that people should treat each other — in politics and in life.
