Matt Damon makes statement on guns during promotion of new action film full of guns?

Hollywood is known for its extreme hypocrisy but Matt Damon is a special kind of hypocrite with statements he recently made about gun control.

Damon, a mega star that has made millions playing a gun-wielding super spy in the popular Bourne series, was recently in Australia promoting the latest installment in the franchise, Jason Bourne. Harking back to that country’s 1990s gun ban, Damon told fans he wished a similar thing could happen in the United States:

“You guys did it here in one fell swoop and I wish that could happen in my country, but it’s such a personal issue for people that we cannot talk about it sensibly. We just can’t.”

The actor ramped up the rhetoric, saying that it was obviously going to take a lot, say another stage of evolution, perhaps, to change anyone’s mind in America about guns:

“Obviously mass shootings aren’t going to do it. There have been so many of them at this point. Sandy Hook, when those children were murdered, if that didn’t do it, you know, I just don’t know. Maybe we just need to evolve further before we can have that conversation, I don’t know.”

Damon expressed hope for a day when the U.S. follows in Australia’s footsteps and talks its citizens into giving up their guns.

“I wish we could be sensible like that but I don’t think that’s going to happen in my lifetime,” he said.

Nor in Jason Bourne’s lifetime, if he wants to keep making those multiple house payments.

Breitbart issued a challenge to the actor in a Facebook post, telling him to put that money where his mouth is:

You want a gun ban? Put your money where your mouth is; right now, vow never to appear in any film with a gun. Also, donate every penny you’ve ever received from films featuring weapons. Come on, Matt. Live those progressive values. Put up or shut up, you rich, Leftist hypocrite. Signed, We the People

If he declines, and there’s no doubt he will, perhaps America can cast him as lead in The Bourne Dishonesty.
