This story is so crazy I don’t know where to begin.

Let’s start with feminism.

You might expect feminists to be up in arms over Lia Thomas, the biological man who just smashed a variety of collegiate swimming records previously held by women.

The University of Pennsylvania swimmer set records for his school over the weekend in the 1650-meter women’s freestyle, the 500 women’s freestyle, and the 200 women’s freestyle. In this particular meet, he beat his closest female competitors by 38 seconds, 12 seconds, and seven seconds, respectively.

A man, in other words, has taken over a woman’s sport. Thomas swam on the UPenn men’s team for three years until he decided he was a woman and jumped over to the women’s team. There, he’s dominating his teammates and opponents and will likely go down as one of the greatest “female” collegiate swimmers of all time.

What do feminists have to say about this? Almost nothing. I haven’t seen a single prominent feminist say anything about Lia Thomas, even though he appears to be undoing everything women have struggled to gain.

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits schools from discriminating based on sex if the school receives federal money. This statue has been used to require colleges to offer the same athletic opportunities for men as for women.

If you ask me, Lia Thomas is a violation of Title IX. If women deserve the same opportunities as men, surely that includes the same opportunities for success. Do Lia Thomas’ competitors have the same opportunities for success? To anyone with eyes, the answer is definitely, NO.

This is what happens to a culture that prizes individual autonomy over everything. Excepting consistent feminists like J.K. Rowling, feminists don’t actually care about women or advancing women’s causes. They care, like all their allies on the radical left, about ensuring that every individual has the ability to do whatever the hell they want.

That’s the motivation at the heart of the transgender movement. They seek to throw off anything and everything that threatens a person’s “freedom.” Anything that gets in the way of their selfish ambitions gets thrown out the window, whether it’s religion, parents, history, biology, fairness, or science.

So, when Lia Thomas comes along and decimates her female competitors, their right to a fair competition and basic biology are sacrificed on the altar of Thomas’s desire to do whatever feels right.
