As of August 31, 2021, more than 50% of the US population had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Sixty-two percent had received at least one dose. And while these numbers are still increasing, the overall vaccination rate has fallen from its peak in April, suggesting that a portion of the population is intentionally holding out against receiving the shot.This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. We would normally just accept that Americans – as a self-governing people – are free to do this, and everyone would move on. But that isn’t happening.America’s “elites” and “experts” have instead devised a scheme to goad us into receiving the COVID-19 vax. Most recently, President Joe Biden has leveraged the awesome power of the federal bureaucracy to force business to impose vaccine mandates on their employees. This will do nothing but continue to ostracize those who haven’t taken the jab and remind us that those who don’t willingly comply will be forced to pay the price. And indeed we have.Conscientious objectors, myself included, have quickly found ourselves becoming a “subclass” of citizens, snubbed from “polite society” for our nonconformity. As cities like New York City bar us from participating in many indoor activities, and vaccine passports threaten to restrict even our most basic travel abilities, corrupt lawmakers boast of their ability to ruin our lives until we learn to do as we’re told. SEE ALSO: Deconstructing Biden’s Latest Cowardly, Asinine Speech Virginia’s former governor Terry McAuliffe, for example, declared his desire to “make life difficult” for the unvaccinated, while CNN contributor Dr. Leana Wen similarly announced that “it needs to be hard for people to remain unvaccinated.” Even the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) suggested that objecting to COVID restrictions could be considered a terrorist threat.Yes, life for the unvaccinated has been turned upside down, and it’s only going to get worse. As one disturbing opinion piece explained, “no one is going to make you get vaccinated. But we’re sure going to make certain your life sucks until you do.”All of this raises a question: Why is Big Brother so eager for us to be vaccinated? We’re told it’s because our benevolent leaders only want to help us, but this seems absurd considering that they are willing to make our lives miserable until we accept their help.Maybe this is actually about much more than public health. Maybe this is really a consolidated effort to strip us of our ability to self-govern. Sure, the pandemic was somewhat beyond our ability to understand, but why should some unelected bureaucrat in Washington, DC, decide that we can’t go to church or out to eat with friends? Why should the government forbid us from opening our businesses? Can’t we make those decisions?The “experts” sure don’t think so. For more than a year they’ve coaxed us into trading our liberties for an addicting promise of safety. They’ve insisted that we aren’t smart enough to make these choices for ourselves, and many of us believed them.And now, thanks to our own timid passivity, the stakes are even higher. As Joe Biden begins his campaign to forcefully inject a needle into our arms, it’s apparent that American self-governance is perilously grasping for its last breaths. If there’s even a semblance of hope left for America, it’s time we revive that most sacred gift. Revive it, and use it.I’m not arguing that you should or shouldn’t get the vaccine. I’m saying that you should be – and rightfully are – free to make that choice. You should demand to be free to make it.Our God-given ability to self-govern is fundamental to who we are as Americans. If we give it up now, America will indeed be in a dark place.
