Want more evidence that socialism doesn’t work? Look no further than Bernie Sanders’s fledging Presidential campaign apparatus. Though the candidate has often criticized Amazon as all that is wrong with America, his campaign spent a staggering $233,000 with the mega-retailer: Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) loves using online mega-retailers as a punching bag, emblematic of everything that is “wrong” with “corporate greed” and “capitalism,” but his campaign used Amazon as a preferred vendor, the Washington Post reports, causing fractures between members of his team. The free market, it turns out, makes things super convenient for cash-strapped campaigns, even if they’re in service of a self-described “Democratic socialist.”“Impassioned dissent erupted within the Sanders campaign earlier this year over its purchases of large amounts of supplies through Amazon, according to five people with knowledge of the situation. Carli Stevenson, then a senior Sanders campaign aide in New Hampshire, raised concerns directly with national campaign officials and suggested using a different company, three of the people said,” The Post reported Tuesday. Why would he spend so much money with the company he hates? Because they deliver products at a good price directly to your door. Convenience. Cost. You know, those ingredients that go into the witch’s brew of capitalism. The huge amount of money the Sanders campaign spent at Amazon is just a fraction of the amount of money spent overall, but it is more than all of the other campaigns. It’s especially ironic considering all of the hatred the candidate spews toward the company. Perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised that millionaire Bernie Sanders doesn’t live by his socialist principles.
