Looking for some evidence that sometimes good overtakes evil? Look no further.

This week, an Alabama dad took his kids to McDonald’s in Birmingham and was leaving around 10:45 p.m.  When the manager opened the door to let them out, another man came in wearing a mask.

The masked man began shooting.  Whether he was trying to rob the store or was targeting another customer, no one knows. The father, however, opened fire on the gunman, fatally wounding him.

“Right now it appears the victim made a decision that cost his life and the father made a decision that preserved his and (his) children’s’ life,” Birmingham police Sgt. Bryan Shelton said.

Other people were shot, including the unidentified dad and one of his kids.  Thankfully, neither have life-threatening injuries. One employee who had hidden in the freezer during the attack calls his dad a hero.

“He’s my hero,” Washington said. “Because I can only imagine how it would’ve went if he wasn’t armed.”
