Self-governance in one’s own life and acting as a self-governing citizen may seem innate on the surface.
But ongoing education, mentorship, and spiritual growth in order to refine self-governance are necessary in becoming a fully-formed and engaged citizen. Happily, opportunities to experience, share, and learn are in abundance at Citizens for Self-Governance (CSG). Below are details about the educational training and information about where to get involved with CSG programs that emphasize various fundamentals of self-governance:
Servant Leadership
More than merely an organizational structure or even a philosophy, Servant Leadership inverts the traditional top-down model of leadership into one of service to others — and that service can be and is transformational.
For individuals with an assigned role in CSG and/or Convention of States Action (COSA), Citizens for Self-Governance offers a thorough nine-week online course that is devoted to exploring Servant Leadership. It follows the dynamic workbook edition of the aptly-named book Servant Leadership by author David Kuhnert, which was specifically adapted for this particular course.
The course involves a one-hour teleconference for nine weeks and weekly reading assignments for discussion. Register here to experience this life-changing course. Emerging Leaders Program
If you are a college student or young professional who is interested in becoming involved in the grassroots movement for self-governance, you should strongly consider the Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) for the 2026-27 academic year. SHAWL
At CSG, mentorship is not limited to politics and civic engagement. There are ample opportunities to walk with highly attuned and knowledgeable followers of Jesus Christ on a journey of discipleship — also known as SHAWL.
SHAWL is an acronym for Surrendering, Humbling, Abiding, Waiting, and Listening to God. In the SHAWL program, you are matched with a mentor who has already taken the SHAWL journey, and will carve out dedicated time for you on a one-on-one basis in order to acquaint you with and guide you through that same path.
