More than two years after season 2 closed with “The Rescue,” Disney’s “The Mandalorian” has returned. Only this time, one notable character is missing.Actress Gina Carano’s fan-favorite character, Cara Dune, played a significant role in the previous season’s finale. Her future in the show seemed definite. In fact, Dune reportedly had her own spinoff show in the works.But that’s when Carano made the “grave mistake” of saying a few “politically incorrect” things.The rest is history. Disney publicly censured the actress, dropped her from the show, and scrubbed her face from all Star Wars merchandise. Still to this day, the media reports simply that Gina Carano was canned for “problematic social media posts.” Of course, “problematic” is code for “conservative” or “disapproved of by woke Disney enforcers.”On a personal note, my first article on Citizens for Self-Governance was about Carano being canceled. At the time, I wrote:“After a controversial history of “offensive” – which really just means “conservative” – social media posts on subjects such as gender pronouns, wearing masks, and voter fraud in the 2020 election, Carano was recently fired from Disney after she compared the hatred of Jews in Nazi Germany to the way in which people in America are hated for their political views.‘Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children,’ she said in the now-deleted post.‘Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?’“Now, perhaps the comparison is exaggerated, but did it really warrant firing Carano?” SEE ALSO: Irony Alert: Disney’s Firing of Gina Carano is Super Anti-Feminist “It’s worth noting that dozens of other celebrities have similarly drawn exaggerated parallels between Nazi Germany and America,” I continued. “How many of those celebrities were “canceled” for their words?“Amazingly, one of those celebrities is actually Carano’s “The Mandalorian” co-star, Pedro Pascal, who played the show’s title character. Pascal, a liberal, has also equated Germany to America in a number of social media posts. One post compared a picture of Jews in a concentration camp to a picture of immigrants in cages, while another one likened Trump supporters to Nazis.”“Of course, Disney never condemned Pascal. And he certainly wasn’t fired.”“So why was Carano fired?”“Clearly, the problem isn’t merely what Carano said, but who Carano is. She’s a conservative. And the woke mob felt threatened by a strong conservative woman who actually had the audacity to express her political beliefs. She broke the sacred rules of political correctness, and cancel culture vowed to make her pay….”Today more than ever, my point from two years ago still stands. Hollywood actors get to be as noisy about far-left politics as they want. Conservative actors, on the other hand, can scarcely say a word without being ostracized, canceled, and fired. James Gunn, for example, was “canceled” for reportedly tweeting many repulsive jokes about pedophilia, yet Disney quickly reinstated him. Carano’s “problematic” statements were far less offensive than Gunn’s. Why hasn’t Disney reinstated her?Or have they? SEE ALSO: Media melts down over Woody Harrelson’s ‘anti-vax’ monologue… thereby proving his point Hours before “The Mandalorian” 3 dropped today, one of the show’s creators made statements about Carano that led some to conclude her character will remain in the show.“Cara was a big part and continues as a character to be part of the world,” said executive producer Rick Famuyiwa. His admission that she “continues” to be a big part of the Star Wars universe raised a few eyebrows. When asked what role the character would play, Famuyiwa responded: “It’s a big galaxy, and we have many characters in it — many characters are fighting for their screen time. We’ll just have to see as the season unfolds what the adventures are, but it’s a great character, someone who was vital to Din Djarin’s [the Mandalorian’s] beginnings; we’ll see if he has evolved beyond that.”“We’ll just have to see…” is an unconvincing answer. From these words, some have deduced that Cara Dune will appear in the show but may be recast. Others are doubtful.In episode 1 of the new season, the show writers have already referenced Dune. It remains to be seen if she will make an appearance in future episodes, but we know now she is at least alive.Nevertheless, Disney’s standing has fallen tremendously since Gina Carano was dropped from the show. The company has taken a headfirst plunge into woke politics, and much of the show’s original audience is gone. Even if the censored actress happened to make an appearance in the show (and I’m not counting on it), not even that would be enough to redeem Disney or save its flailing reputation. Fans may be ready to jump into another season of Mando and Baby Yoda, but thanks to Disney and cancel culture, the show’s legacy is forever tarnished.
