Saturday Night Live is not known for its conservative hot takes, but people of all political stripes should be able to enjoy their recent skit which featured an all-star celebrity cast making fun of the Democratic candidates in the most recent 2020 MSNBC Democratic debate.
The comedians skewered each candidate for their specific eccentricities and weaknesses.
“Kamala Harris” wanted to become America’s cool aunt and was desperately seeking a “meme moment. “Joe Biden” touted his support from “bl-African Americans” and made numerous jokes about his gaffe-proned nature. “Bernie Sanders” claimed to be the “first heart attack patient to show up to the emergency room in a city bus” and said he wanted to live in an America where even poor people have “the clapper” to turn off their bedroom lights. A wide-eyed Cory Booker delivered rehearsed jokes. “Elizabeth Warren” had “mom hosting Thanksgiving energy.” The irrelevant “Amy Klobuchar” had quivering bangs. Late comer “Michael Bloomberg” showed up holding big soft drinks, speaking lame Spanish. Andrew Yang was upset over not being able to speak very much. Debate villain “Tulsi Gabbard” wore the pantsuit of their fallen hero, Hillary Clinton and evoked Cruella de Vil.
The whole thing is worth watching for the inspired Larry David casting of Bernie Sanders. Andrew Yang was played by Bowen Yang, Pete Buttigieg was played by Colin Jost, Cory Booker was played by Chris Redd, Elizabeth Warren was played by Kate McKinnon, Amy Klobuchar was played by Rachel Dratch, Tom Steyer was played by Will Ferrell, Michael Bloomberg was played by Fred Armisen, Tulsi Gabbard was played by Cecily Strong, Joe Biden was played by Woody Harrelson, and Kamala Harris was played by Maya Rudolph.
It’s a good twelve minutes worth of laughs, which may be in short supply between now and 2020. Enjoy them while you can.
