The nation grieved on Sunday, as yet another house of worship experienced what would’ve been a mass shooting except for the actions of a gun-owning congregant at a church of Christ outside Dallas during the communion service.
Congregant Jack Wilson drew his gun and shot a bullet right in the shooter’s head from 50 feet in just 2 seconds. He happens to be the owner of On Target Shooting Academy. His quick action prevented further death and chaos and proved that “a good guy with a gun” is the best way to prevent tragedy.
“The heroism today is unparalleled,” Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said. “This team responded quickly, and within six seconds the shooting was over.”
This horrific incident reminded me that Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden attacked Governor Greg Abbott earlier this year. Biden called Gov. Abbott “irrational” after he signed a bill into law that allowed lawful gun owners to carry firearms in places of worship.
The Daily Wire has the details.
“Dealing with firearms, it is irrational, with all due respect to the governor of Texas, irrational what they are doing. On the very day you see a mass shooting … and we’re talking about loosening access to have guns, to be able to take them into places of worship, it’s just absolutely irrational. It’s totally irrational.”
He later said he’d never compromise on this. “I think this is no compromise. This is one we have to just push, and push, and push, and push, and push.”
Frequently, after mass shootings, people say “this is no time for politics.” However, this shooting in Texas shows that the political positions of our candidates do matter – they have life and death consequences.
It’s time for Joe Biden to recant his previous criticism to reflect the reality of today’s tragedy. A “good guy with a gun” is a good thing, in deed.
