Polish Catholic philosopher Ryszard Legutko was planning to speak to Middlebury College students until he was ceremoniously un-invited. Liberal activists didn’t want the professor of philosophy at Jagiellonian University and a member of the European Parliament to come, because – you guessed it – he didn’t line up precisely with their own political views. And libs are now unabashedly facists.
And you won’t guess what his lecture was going to be on:
Legutko was scheduled to speak Wednesday at the Vermont college’s Alexander Hamilton Forum, delivering a lecture entitled “The Demon in Democracy: Totalitarian Temptations in Free Societies.” A member of the anti-Communist Polish resistance during the Cold War, Legutko warns that western democracy is also susceptible to creep towards totalitarianism.
That’s pretty ironic, no? Days before Legutko was to arrive, students and professors demanded the university take away its sponsorship of the talk. What reasoning did they use? You guessed it. The same reasoning that always accompanies such non-sense:
The liberal activists took issue with Legutko’s pointed critiques of multiculturalism, feminism, and homosexuality, calling them “homophobic, racist, xenophobic, [and] misogynistic.”
Ever notice how libs never actually deal with the critiques, but just label them with big, inaccurate words?
“Inquiry, equity, and agency cannot be fostered in the same space that accepts and even elevates homophobic, xenophobic, misogynistic discourse,” they demand. “Bigotry of any kind should not be considered a form of inquiry.”
Bigotry of any kind?
Something tells me they don’t actually mean that.
