Rob Lowe to O’Reilly: “Individuals Do Better than Government”

It’s not often someone from Hollywood agrees with us.  But in the middle of a recent interview about his new book and how hard it is to be good-looking,  Rob Lowe made a political statement with which we can actually agree.  He thinks there should be less government intrusion in the lives of American citizens.

Bill O’Reilly contrasted Lowe’s view with the typical “Hollywood pinhead” who favors massive government to ensure total equality.  Lowe pushed back: he’s all for equality.  “I just think that individuals usually do a better job than collective big government.”

“Does that make me a libertarian?” he asked when O’Reilly applied the label.

Lowe doesn’t want to be identified by a label.  He recently told the New York Times, “my days of just ticking the party box are long over. I judge the candidates for who they are.”

“My thing is personal freedoms, freedoms for the individual …  In fact, I want the government out of almost everything.”

Whatever label those statements give Lowe, it’s refreshing to hear a voice in Hollywood realizing that government involvement is not the solution to everything.  In fact, the federal government having its hands in too much is a big part of the problem.

Hands off, Lowe says.  We can do a better job governing ourselves.

We can’t help but agree.
