The Daily Caller points out this unintentionally hilarious interview on MSNBC  featuring conservative writer Erick Erickson.  You might remember that Erickson has never been a fan of President Donald Trump.  Yet, in spite of his years of protest, MSNBC believes he should have done more.  The host, MSNBC anchor Katy Tur, asked him why he wasn’t tougher on the President after Wednesday’s bomb scare.

Erickson at least agreed partially that Trump should’ve been more unifying.  However, he rightly pointed out that Democrats hold some responsibility for how acrimonious political discourse has become… on both sides.

“There are folks on the other side who need to tamp down their rhetoric as well,” he explained. “We had ricin attacks against [Republican Senators] Susan Collins and Ted Cruz last week, protesters chasing people out of restaurants. I think both sides need to calm down.”

But the MSNBC host was not having this “both sides” talk.  The Daily Caller has more:

“I do think it’s pretty clear when you’re talking about this toxic political environment that it did start with — mostly — with Donald Trump,” Tur said. “He started his campaign by calling Mexicans rapists, he repeatedly cheered on crowds that were screaming ‘lock her up’ for Hillary Clinton — ”

Erickson chimed in to ask if she wanted to go back to President Barack Obama telling supporters to bring “a gun to a knife fight” or to Timothy McVeigh in the 1990s.

“No, stop, no, no, no, no, no,” Tur chided. “Erick, let me finish, this is my show!”

“Have you ever heard a politician, other than Donald Trump, say I’m so proud or give a kudos to another politician who body slammed a reporter?” Tur asked.

Erickson said, “Donald Trump is not to blame for the mass shooting against Republicans last year — you had Democrats saying Republicans were killing people.”

Exactly.  It’s time for everyone to calm down and think soberly about what it means to be Americans.  At the very least, it means unequivocally denouncing political violence in all its forms no matter the target.
